Valve Adjustment procedure for '91 CC

Can anyone help me out with the procedure for adjusting the valves on my 1991 Club Car? I've found adjustment procedures for newer modles, but it appears the engines on them are much different than mine. My '91 is pure stock.

Thanks,

Greg

Re: Valve Adjustment procedure for '91 CC

If you have the early flathead motors no valve adjustment is used. If you have the overhead valve motor the procedure is the same as a modern engine. Cold engine - piston TDC (at top dead center) * - use a feeler gauge to check and set gaps.

*remove plug place a clean screwdriver in the plug hole until it rests on the piston. rotate the engine and observe when the screwdriver is the furthest out of the hole. This indicates the piston at the top of it's stroke. Adjust the valves.

From my manual on the flathead motor:
1. Remove spark plug
2. Remove tappet chamber cover
3. Rotate engine by hand to bring piston to TDC on compression stroke
4. Check intake and exhaust valves to be sure both are closed
5. Insert feeler gauge between each tappet and valve stem
6. Proper clearance for both valves is .004 to .008 in.
7. If new valves were installed, the clearance may be too small or too large. To bring valve clearance within specifications remove cylinder.
8. Remove tappet cap
9. Measure thickness of tappet cap head
10. Using tappet cap chart, install new cap of proper thickness to bring clearance within specifications.

Club Car Part No. Metric Size US Size

1012950 3.4 mm .134 in.
