Solenoid/resistor for electric club car precedent
 

Hi all, I'm new here and I'm hoping you all can help. We just bought a 2014 Club Car Precedent with 2019 batteries. At full charge I get like 55volts. We have two issues which may or may not be related. First, you can't floor it. It gets to full speed (20mph), but if you floor it, it cuts out. Always. Second problem is intermittent. Sometimes it just won't go. I switched out the mcor and it changed nothing. Then I realized the solenoid doesn't always click, which explains why it won't go. I took out the solenoid and tried to bench test it with first an 8 volt golf cart battery, then a 12 volt car battery. It quietly clicks, but I can't get continuity across the big terminals. I assume that means it's bad, right?

Last question: in the parts diagram I found online it shows a resistor across the big terminals. Mine doesn't have that. Should I put it on with new solenoid?

There should be continuity between the 2 big posts when the coil clicks. For best results use the rated voltage to ensure full engagement of the contact bridge piece.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure how I would check it with 48 volts. My understanding was that the smaller terminals use a lower voltage, but maybe I'm not understanding it. Know anything about the resistor across the larger terminals?

The resistor lets a small amount of voltage through to charge the capacitors in the controller...Without it the controller gets a burst of power every time the solenoid closes..That will have a negative effect on the controller and shorten its life... The correct size resistor for a 48v cart is 470 ohms x 10 watts and is available online or one of the sponsors......

With the solenoid in the cart.. key on.. in forward and go pedal pressed you should have pack voltage at the 2 small terminals of the solenoid....If you do the solenoid is probably bad if it is not closing...If you don't, more testing is needed...
