RXV with Lithium Batteries
 

Have a 2014 RXV that I converted to Allied Lithium batteries a year ago. I converted to the 50 amp hour batteries. Everything was great till about two months ago when one battery went zero volts with 60% capacity left. Then another battery went to zero volts. I found out that this is the internal BMS system acting like a circuit breaker. Allied replaced the two batteries and then a third battery failed!! Anybody else out there experiencing these failures?

old post I know, but I am having same issues.

2015 Rxv 48V stock curtis controller.
im on my 3rd lithium battery pack in 2 years.
here is what I have:

ePOWER4803E are integrated golf car battery systems with a 48V 3KWh Lithium Ion battery pack. The battery configuration is a 16s1p 60Ah pack. It is typically programmed with 80%DOD, or 2.4KWh usable storage capacity.

1st pack dropped 6 cells in 6 months
2nd pack dropped 9 cells in 3 months.
last pack lasted 2 months before dropping 9 cells.
Total lock up on cart when voltage drops.

IMO 60AH is not sufficient and it's easy to overcurrent / overdischarge that small a pack. Not sure who's batteries you are using but early failures are unusual with high quality properly sized Lithium packs.

I'm having BMS issue with my 150Ah pack, so it is not the size. I think I'm going back to the lead acid.

I have thought about going back as well,
A few more years may be needed to perfect the lithium golf cart battery

I think that what’s happening is the power demand from the RXV motor is so great that the computer can’t handle the voltage demand and then drops cells but what do I do I know except this is my 4th pack in 2 years

One reason why I decided not to use a "drop in" for my RXV. Beyond the lock up, a sudden disconnection of the pack from an active controller in the RXV can corrupt the internal database according to something I think Bob Boyce wrote sometime back.

It could be that the cells are way out of balance or that the short term pulse rating of the cells is not adequate even though you have 150 Ah cells.

I've been waiting for the Roypow S51105P to become available at my local dealer. I think it's made to handle the extra regen power surge but not the peak demand load.
Any thoughts on that? I hate to throw good money away.

I think that would be perfect since you already have the 350A controller. The local dealer here is installing lots of 105S in stock 235A RXV's with no problems. IMHO
