Old G1, salvage?
I have a 2-stroke G1 that's been in the junk yard since 2000. It was running when parked. Last year I pulled it to the my shop, pulled plug, oiled cyl, turned over by hand a couple days. I put a battery to it, sprayed cyl w wd-40, put in plug, jumped s-noid, it started and ran for several seconds. (I had a good laugh!) Not wanting a project at that time, I pulled it back out to the yard.
So it is complete, (but no top?) I imagine age and mice got some electronics. It looks rough. I'd like to pass it on for some $. Any value to it?? What is a good step to sell it ? |
Re: Old G1, salvage?
I was looking for a project cart a couple of years ago and found an '87 G1 for sale locally. The cart actually ran well (still does, knocking on wood) but the aesthetics were a disaster. No seats, fiberglass a complete mess, garbage wheels and tires, etc. I paid $600 for it which, in hindsight, was probably about right. As yours is not really running and in rough shape I wouldn't expect any more than $500 for it.

^ wow, I would think 500 is way high but that is why I'm getting opinions.
I'm in Arkansas if anyone has interest. |
Re: Old G1, salvage?
...and last week I was considering using frt hubs to make a GC trailer axle, since I have extra wheels/tires. But I hate to waste the cart more than I have.

I don't think it's a value thing as much as finding a buyer. That's likely a parts cart and, really, in the big scale of things there aren't a ton of cart tinkerers out there let alone one that would be close enough to you to scoop it up. |

I see nice G1's for sale every now and then, running and in good shape generally see then listed around $1k asking price. And they dont sell fast... you usually see them listed for a good while before they sell or they give up and take the ad down to just keepnit. |
Re: Old G1, salvage?
$300-$500 depending upon overall condition. Even though the engine runs, it likely needs a rebuild since it was stored outside. The cylinder and crank bearings can get rust from sitting if it got wet. The seats are usually trash. Just the complete body is worth $300 if it's not all cracked up, that fiberglass is a mess when it's cracked. In my area, a good running cart with good brakes and tires and a clean body is worth $1000 all day.

Re: Old G1, salvage?
If anyone wants to buy this cart for parts or resto, PM me for transaction details.
Rearend, both clutches, engine, tanks, all there as far as I know. I'll post in buy/sell sometime. |
