Governor Trouble

I have the heavy duty driven clutch sping in my 98 Ezgo to help out with the lower end torque along with 22x11-10 mud tires to help get through some sticky situations. My governor was set from the factory and I felt that the cart was still to slow. Really it seemed like I was still going maybe the factory setting of 15mph.

I started to turn the governor spring 1/4" tighter and I was hitting the rev limiter on the flats of kansas. Turned the governor back down to the factory setting and it still doesn't act completly right.

Has anybody out there had to tear into the governor located in the diff? The weights or spring ever broke? Just need some advice. The carb acts like it is shutting down properly.:help:

I have seen a few gov in the diff come apart. I didn't build the rear I put in new ones.

Check all your other linkages. Make sure they aren't binding. You can also adjust the carb linkage a little shorter for increase trottle opening.

But just going 1/4" should not have gotten you in the rev limiter.

Re: Governor Trouble

All of the linkages are still in there respected factory locations except for the idle adjustment which had to be increased for the different spring that was installed in the "Drive Clutch", so the cart stays running with the key on.

When I back the governor off below the factory setting you can visualy see it work against the spring, but when you go tighter with it you lose all visual of the spring working, or I should say gov working. Totally lost here and ready to sell this cart!!:?

Re: Governor Trouble

I purchased a shop rebuild manual from ezgo on the rear axle diff. Hopefully get a chance to look at it to see if there is something that could go wrong in there.

When I hold a tach to the sparkplug wire and push the pedal all the way down it reads 4600rpm. The only thing I have adjusted on this cart is the governor spring. Who knows?
