1984 2 stroke running rough

I recently purchased an 84 cart with a 2 stroke. It runs really rough. The choke is needed to get it to fire even when warm, it runs ok but not like it should at about half choke, and it also seems to be starved for fuel, but the fuel pump has flow. The fuel pump was removed, disassembled and inspected. Everything looks fine. I bipassed the steel fuel line with a 1/4 inch rubber and the fuel filter sometimes stays full, but usually goes down low. The fuel line was primed a bunch to get the air out. The carb has been cleaned, the fuel tank was removed and cleaned. The next idea was to test with a gravity fed tank to the filter direct to the carb. Any help and support would be awesome. Thanks

-I have a `91 with the same problem, I have replaced all fuel lines, filters, new fuel pump, primed the system all the way to the carb & will only run in idle. It will not rev high enough to ingage the clutch. It was running good with plenty of power then started acting it was starving for fuel, & gone down hill from there.

if you have to choke it that much it is a fuel problem.
make sure that the fuel jet bolt on the bottom of the bowl
is very clean and clear. it does take much to clog them little holes.

good luck, dew

Thanks. I have cleaned the carb a few times, jet is clear. No difference. I have a new fuel pump that is going in tomorrow. After we did a test with a gravity feed tank, it seems the fuel pump is not working to its fullest. Even with the line, filter, and carb bowl full with fuel, it does not run any diffeerent than it did previously.

if theres gas going thru the carb then;
check the compression (#120).
you may have a leaky gasket or need new rings.
if you have good compression, then check your reed valves for cracks.
if all ok, then check your coil & condenser.

that should cover it. Dew

almost forgot, put a new plug in and check the spark

Thank you. It has a new plug. Strong blue spark. I will do a compression test. Thanks

I did a compression test. Cold it was 110. Warm it was about 100. Could this be the problem?
