Brake Shoe removal
One of the things I need to do before I ever coal creek is to replace the shoes on my G2. I was just curious as to how to remove these and replace them. I bought new ones but they didn't give me instructions on how to remove them.

pretty much the same as changing auto drum brakes

I've never changed car brakes before. Or any kind of brake for that matter.

Thanks spriddle, its kinda hard to explain lots of springs and stuff, you will get the hang of it after a few drum brake jobs. Adjustment is a major part too.

Yes, adjustment is very important when reinstalling the new brakes. Be sure to only adjust/turn the star wheel adjuster until the pads just barely rub against the drum. If you over adjust/turn that starwheel adjuster it will either not allow you to install the drum or burn the pads on the shoes and could glaze them. Do one side at a time so you can refer back and forth between the two. Removing the drums may be difficult. Make sure you don't have the brake locked and the brake cables are disconnected. Use jack stands (SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY FIRST!!!!). Spray the inner area if the drum with wd-40 (around the axle) and you may have hit it with a rubber mallet to loosen.
If you have any questions, be sure to ask. Don't attempt anything your not sure about. If anything (springs/etc...) looks damaged, replace it. |
Swap from Adidas to Nike.... That will fix everything...
