another state of charge meter question?
 
Can you use a 36/48 volt(charge) gauge on a higher voltage. It seems to me if you wire it in the first 6,8 or what ever batteries to match the voltage then it would give a correct reading no matter how high or many batteries were down steam from the connection. Am I correct on this thinking?????ie all batteries would drain at the same amount, wheather 2 batteries or 20 batteries, thus a 36 volt gauge would correctly read any 6-6v batteries in the stream of 12-6v batteries?????

Yes you can do that. Might not be as accurate as a high voltage meter to match but pretty darn close.

They need to have the same amp hour ratings etc. for this to work, and any accessories could alter results. Also, when one starts going bad, it may affect the readings. The theory is accurate though.

You can recalibrate these meters with external resistors for what ever voltage you want. I did this for JDSharp when he wanted to use his old 48V meter on his new 64V pack. When you calibrate know your exact high and low voltages.

I do not know if JDSharp is on this forum.

JD's meter was not digital, it was the analog style.

Thanks , I believe I will order a 36v meter and accept that it is not 100% accurate, only 90%. I don't won't to be stranded in the woods again!!!!!!!
