48v solenoid resistor HOT
 

Forgive me if this is answered elsewhere, I looked but couldn't find this exact issue. Sold my simple old Yamaha G9 and am building up an 07 Precedent. Put in new batteries and nothing. Opened the cover to check the solenoid and found the terminals on the wires from the reistor at the yellow wires coroded. Replaced the spade connectors and plugged it in, but the resistor immediately got really hot so I unplugged it and put it back in "tow".
Do I have a bad controller?

. . . I am wondering if solenoid may be defective causing the pre-charge resistor to heat up . . . wait for someone like Tahoe to see this thread, though . . . :thumbup:

Thanks Steve, that would be good news- sounds cheaper. I checked it some more today and it's strange because even with the key off and the switch in "tow" the resistor heats up really fast to the point it is expanding.
The resistor still reads 240 ohms.
No voltage to the coil when pedal is pressed with key on and in "run".

Sorry to say but that is the controller that is shot.The resistor pre-charges the capacitors in the controller.

Figures. Should I go with the stock Curtis? New or is it ok to get used or rebuilt?

What do you have to do to stop this from happening before the resistor burns up. Also the resistor should be 500 ohms. Try replacing it before the controller.

I thought this was supposed to be a 250 ohm resistor?

It's a 250 ohm resistor for a 36V cart 500 ohm for a 48V

Cool, I'll try it. Would the 240 ohms I'm getting cause it to overheat?

Less resistance equal more current flow equal more heat? It would be cheaper than trying a controller.
