I have a weird one for ya!!

Ok, here's one for ya!
2000 Ezgo workhorse
Gas
Won't start. Unless you disconnect the crankcase breather tube from intake housing.
Got spark
Got compression
Valves set perfect

Cranks like crazy reach over and pull off the hose from the back of the housing. Spits sputters and roars to life and drives great.

What might cause this!

It sounds like too much pressure in the crank case and it is messing with the fuel pump. Once it starts, what happens if you hook the tube back up while running?

Re: I have a weird one for ya!!

It dies after about 10 to 30 seconds after hooking the hose back up.

No it's clear. if I unplug it and cap off the port on the intake housing. The buggy runs like a top!

Excessive blow by??
What is the compression?

redneck1013 05-02-2014 07:37 PM

Re: I have a weird one for ya!!

Compression is 145/150
And I tried hooking it up when running and it runs fine until u kill the engine. Then it won't start back up til u disconnect the hose.

Have you removed the air filter and closed the box back up, then tried to start it with the hose connected?

Re: I have a weird one for ya!!

If I remember right, the box has a baffling of sorts right below where that hose hooks in. It might have something in it that is blocking air flow and the only way to get enough air is remove the restrictive hose.
