Extra batteries in a Melex??
 

My cousin has an old electric Melex cart that is all stock. Runs mint. everything works fine. We also have 6 good used extra batteries. Is it possible to add an extra couple of extra batteries to the Melex? What would we gain from adding an extra battery or two? Not realling looking for more speed, more interested in longer run time....but extra speed would be nice too. Does it hurt by adding batteries?

I added 2 to my old Melex in the bagwell :thumbup:

Reports vary but gains of 20 to 30% are expected when going from 36 to 48 volts. You will need a new solenoid. Some 4 gauge cables are highly reccomended.

Just replace the 36volt with a 48volt solenoid? and add the batteries?

Basically, yes. You will want to upgrade the cables as a lot more amps will be traveling through them. And I reccomend you inspect your F&R switch and the speed wiper board first. Any signs of arching must be addressed as the higher voltage will only make this condition dangerously worse. :thumbup:

You said old Melex? Is it a resistor coil cart or controller? 8)

I know he just rand new cables all around and put a new "swipe boar" circuit board for speed control? Not sure how to tell resistor vs circuit board. I'll see if I can get some details or even pics of the cart.

If he has a wiper bord speed control ...It also has coil wires between the batteries and the motor......Seen here below the heat shield infront of the motor .....
