96 G16 Oil Drain Plug

I recently picked up a non running 96 G16A. I was told that the oil drain plug was stripped and the stock plug was not included with the cart.

Looking for anyone else who has had this problem and how to fix. I ordered a stock plug to get the thread size in order to find the next larger size, but will required a re-tap of the drain hole.

Any help or information on how to fix this will be appreciated.

Thanks
Jeremy

Do you know that the motor is good. Or do you not know. If you are certain it is ok, I would take motor out of the car, and take it to a speed shop, or engine builder, He will know how to fix it.

If your not sure of it's condition, There are rubber plugs with a bolt through them, and when tightened, they will expand to plug the hole on a temporary bases. Hope you can find one that small.

Others should chime in shortly!

I was told that the motor was good but drain plug got stripped during oil change.
How hard is it to remove the motor? I will look through the other threads looking for some type of procedure.
I might try the rubber plug initially in order to verify the condition of the motor and see if it will start.

Seperate question, anyone know if a walmart battery will work in golf carts as long as it's the same physical size.

Thanks
Jeremy

Jere, I would PM "Steve Rand, Crash or Grounder Pounder. They will have good ideas as far as temporary as well as a perminate fix for your plug problem.

Can anyone provide me the size of the drain plug.

Right now I was able to barely fit a well nut into place until I can either get a new stock one or a method of fixing the crankcase if stripped.

Thanks for all the help from everyone.

The stock drain bolt is (part# 90340-12097-00) witch translates to a 12mm thread by 97mm long. As I recall, we went with a 13mm thread tap (and coresponding drill bit) with a new bolt and crush washer. Don't go to big, the case casting can't handle it.

Thanks for the update, I will look into this for the permanent fix once I get the throttle cable issue resolved.

Thanks everyone for the information, new to the golf cart arena.

Is that a course or fine thread?
