48v on 36v Series Cart
 

I’ve been searching posts for the last hour and haven’t seen anything on this.
Charged my batteries today and ran the cart for all of 10-15 mins then check all 6 of my 6v batteries. 4 measured 6.2 the other two were 4.3. Guessing two are bad.
Being that I’m going to have to replace two, I’ll just replace all. What does the congregation think about running 48v (6x8v) on a 36v series cart? I’ve heard it can be done but will generate extra heat at the motor.

Resistor. I’m a little concerned the resistors may get too hot and cool. But I feel like swapping to 48v could be the leader to an Alltrax and then eventually new motor.

I have never done it, but some have. Some say the resistors hold up. Most say they won't. I stayed with 36v.

But if I was going to go to 48v I would convert it to a controller cart.

I have had two (2) resistor carts, both friends of mine, and they were made 48v many years ago. One is still running today and the other ran for years until the Hurricane Matthew to it down into the wild blue yonder....

There is someone else active here that is running one that way but I do not remember who it is....

The old 36v five Solenoid setup was better for 48v since the Solenoid contacts can make and break DC current a lot better than the VGlide pads.

One way to extend the life of the VGlide at 48v is to run a second Solenoid that completely by-passes the VGlide and resistors board when the pedal is all the way down.

I'd do it. Get the 48V batteries. Run it until the toaster coils break and then convert it to a controller cart with an alltrax :thumbup:

Don't forget you will need a new charger too.

I’ve got an old resistor Marathon. Had a good battery pack, so I just added 1 more 6 volt to make it 42. Big difference in performance. With my step switch throttle I wasn’t brave enough to try 48 volts. Runs so good I’d hate to melt something.

i wish i understood this diagram more (mainly because im a putz).. id love to do this on mine
