electric clubcar loses charge and power quickly

Hello all this is a great site, the problem I am having is that my cart runs great out of the gate but quickly loses power. I have Trojan batteries and they are four years old my cart is a 1997. I have an ongoing problem with corrosion and had to replace ends on a couple of my wires. I’m thinking maybe I have a bad battery. Any ideas on the best way to check? Thank you.

Welcome

You will need a voltmeter and know how to use it. Check each battery with the voltmeter and record the voltages. You will probly find one or more thats lower then the rest. Check them about an hour AFTER fully charging the batteries. Check each batterys water level and make sure they are full BEFORE charging. Only fill to about 1/4-1/2 inch above the plates...then fully charge the pack....then ONLY AFTER its fully charged fill the batteries up the rest of the way. If you fill them up all the way before charging electrolyte will boil out of the batteries. Use distilled water ONLY.

What I did with mine was:

I first clean all of the batteries with baking soda and water...

Then I take each terminal off, one at a time, lightly clean the cable terminal with
100 grit sand paper, and the battery terminal with a small wire brush,
coat both of them individualy with a spray "Battery Terminal Protecter"
I reinstalled the terminal to the battery, and gave it another small shot of protecter,
and continued on to the next terminal... so on, and so forth.

I've only had to do this once, since I put in my batteries 4 years ago!
(although... once a year or so, I've had to do it to my main positive terminal only!)

hope this helps!

As you can probably tell i am a rookie at this ,so forgive me for dumb questions.I have removed my batteries and have given a good cleaning. My acid build up had eaten one of my cable ends off which I have repaired ,what is the best product to put on ends, also what is best for winter storage concerning batteries. Thank you

Well... I'm hoping you "removed" the batteries (or just the cable ends) one at a time!!!

Go to Wal-Mart or any auto parts store, and ask for spray "Battery Terminal Protector",
the brand won't matter that much!

click on the link!

IF one cable was that bad then all cables are very high in resistance as result of age and interior corrosion..... we suggest you replace them all at this time
