Forward Reverse switch arcs, cart moves with key off

I have a 1990 36 volt club car and I had to replace the forward-reverse switch because it caught on fire. Now it arcs on the forward-reverse switch when I change positions on the f/r switch and the cart moves with the key turned off and pedal depressed. I was careful putting the wires on correctly. i made a diagram when I took it apart. Any suggestions please? Not sure where else to look.

Welcome to bgw Henry Burkholder
Henry it sounds to me like you have a solenoid which is welder closed or on all the time..... you can verify this with a voltmeter.... The F&R usually arcs when it has loose connections so did you replace it with a new or used unit? Is your cart a controller or resistor cart?

Thanks for the reply. No, I have not checked the solenoid. I have a voltmeter and will do that in the morning. I purchased a new, after-market forward/reverse switch. How do I know if the cart is a controller or resistor model? The model no. is A9041226093. Henry

A resistor cart will have a row of resistor coils that look like bed springs behind the battery pack.......8)

Change out the solenoid with a similar rated golf cart 36v solenoid .....8)
