1989 marathon 36v cart only goes fast

My 89 cart only goes fast as soon as you touch the petal the cart takes off.
Not sure where to start. Hello to all new member would like some help. Have the cart on blocks and have volt and ohm meter. Thanks CD

Welcome to BGW

Is it a controller cart or resistor cart?

Measure the throttle pot. You should be getting a range of 0-5k ohm. 0 being no throttle 5 k being wide open. You can measure the 2 wires by disconnecting them at the controller while pushing on the accelorator pedal and the cart jacked up and placed on jackstands. If you unplug the 2 throttle wires and it still takes off when you puh the pedal you have problems with the main power wiring somewhere.

I did this afternoon remove the two wires one white and one black and the cart tires took off but I will check again tomorrow. Not sure what the throttle pot is. checked through manual and did not find it. thanks CD

thanks rusty. With the 2 wires from Potentiometer to control module with cart off ohms read 3.7 ohms pushing pedal went up to 3100 ohms the as pedal is pushed further dropped off to 4 ohms. with cart on the cart ran fast without the wires connected. The wiring is connected just like the manual picture.
Confused on Potentiometer adjustment. In Manual picture place dime spacer on lever. Mine has for top stop a spring loaded wheel which is pushed up all the way by the lever. Could the Potentiometer be out of adjustment?
Thanks CD

If the cart is running fast with the throttle wires disconnected the wiring is wrong or the controller is messed up. The cart should not run at all with the wires 2 wires disconnected.

It looks like you have 2 issues...one being the throttle pot and the other either the wiring or the controller.

The throttle pot can be adjusted a little but I dont think thats the problem.

I also do not think it is the wiring as it worked for 2 yr. and then one day it started this full speed only. No loose or corrosion.
