Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
After doing several searches with no luck and seeing all the new G1 owners coming on board I figured it was time to start up a club for G1 owners. So I guess I'll start it off. I've got a 84 that I am putting a clone motor in, lifting and doing a butt load of other stuff to. Have learned a lot from this site so far and love getting new ideas from others. I'm already making plans for another G1 build and don't even have this one done yet.:lhmo:

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Great idea gray horse..I have two G1's an 81 and an 84 love them both they are like mini tanks..The 81 has a 10.5" lift and stretched 40" with 23" tires [love to trade some one for some 25's or 26's]..The 84 has 4.5" lift with 22's and if I did anything else to it my wife would kill me [she loves her cart]..

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Awesome idea:thumbup:
I have an 83 G1, with a 420 clone in it, 6" lift, and a laundry list of stuff to get done to it:mrgreen: For a thirty year old cart, this thing has held up great. No wonder people call them "tanks"8) |
Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
I have an '84 thats currently in pieces all over the garage floor. I've gotten so much help here including Todd, Grayhorse, Slonomo, Pachanga and many others. I need to have this done early April and I'm being a little fussy with it. Thanks to all of you for your help and this is a great idea Grayhorse. G1's Rule:thumbup:

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
I bought a non running 86' yamahualer, (as someone else called it). It had a new piston, rings and seal kit already done. I've been going through it and replacing things as I get to them. Since the grounding system seems to be a problem, I started there. Made all new grounding harness and connectors. Now I've moved on to the fuel system, I'm hopeful to have it running good by the spring so I can focus on the lift and tires.

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Great idea Gray Horse! This thread should have been started a long time ago. I am the owner of two G1s. One is an 83 and the other is an 84. Both have been great campground carts for me. After I bought my first one I knew I had to have another.

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
I have a '79(?)...in pieces. Just fired it back up last week. Working on seats/body.

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Great idea. Keepin the G1 Alive...

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Great to see people coming on board. The G1 is a tank. Good, heavy, solid frame makes for all kinds of possibilities. After I get this one done I'm going to look for another. Want to stretch it, long travel the front and 4 link the back with a big block. May go extreme and put a HD motor/trans setup in it since I have an extra laying around.:lhmo:
|
Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Gray, 4 link sounds awesome and HD motor/trans puts it way over the top!!!! Not good for me to have those kinds of visions. :lhmo::lhmo:

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
I'll join up, '82 G1 slowly being modified
Gray- Somebody beat you to the Harley idea, it's not a G1, but it is a Yamaha http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...amaharley2.jpg http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...amaharley3.jpg http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...amaharley4.jpg |

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Does anyone have any experience with brake shoes and/or drums from e-bay? I called Plowman this morning and they want $195 plus shipping for two drums and four shoes. E-bay has them for $109 including shipping. I know Don is selling original Yamaha parts but they're twice as much cashola!! Looking for used drums if anyone has them in good shape. My cart is an 84. Thanks :help:

I love my G1....what's left of it. Started with an '84 G1 and added a G9 rear end, 16 hp clone with a floor shifter and did some body work.

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
heavygs, that is one bad azz cart! Wonder what type of rearend he's running? Don't think a stock cart rearend would hold up to the torque.
abieex, I bought my brake shoes off e-bay for a real decent price. Look like good shoes. I've got them installed and now I just picked up a Jakes rear hydraulic disc brake setup, very cheap, that I'll be installing in the near future. Those parts will be available but that doesn't help you any right now. Not sure when I'll be starting that part of the project. |
Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
I hear ya Gray. I think I'm gonna order from e-bay and take my chances. I would love to buy from a sponsor but I'm not paying double! I like the sound of disc brakes but I'll save that my next project, another G1 only a big block. That Harley cart is awesome.
|
Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
abieex, you can get a set of rear mechanical disc brakes for a G1 off e-bay for $199 shipped. I was going to go that way until I found the ones I have now. Just a thought.

Great Idea for a G1 Club! Finally a place were we can display the G1 creations that we've come up with. Here's a photo of the "Before and After" of my '79. While it wasn't an easy build, but not the toughest that I've done, I enjoyed every minute of it and would do it again in a heart beat!
I was the first one of my neighborhood to modify a golf cart. As you can see from the third photo, my buddies caught the fever, pickup their own Yami and modified them as well. If this keeps up we're going to have to form a neighborhood Custom Golf Cart Association. :lhmo: |

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Abi, you'd be smart to demand "Genuine Yamaha" shoes. Talk to Block, the others are hard compound, and don't stop. Good luck G1 club!! Ed, you guys look good in your third picture!! Thumbs up!!

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
Nice pic BigEd:thumbup:
Same deal in my neighborhood. The one in front is my old G1, I sold it to the neighbor when I bought my G16. We stretched it a little. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/pictu...pictureid=2616 http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/pictu...pictureid=4538 |
Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
small- There was no info on those pics when I found them, all it said was "Yamaha combined with a Harley" couldn't find anything else, would love to see a build thread on it.

Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
essness, love the stretched G1. That's kinda what I have in mind for my next (future) build. Stretched and jacked.
Quite an impressive group of carts. Bet it's quite the show when ya'll get to cruisin' on a Saturday night. :lhmo: |
Re: Yamaha G1 owners club-post here
It's fun. We are a group of homes in a series of dead end neighborhoods with all the property's being 1 to 10 acres. The carts make sense rather than get in the car and drive. During the winter we use snowmobiles:thumbup:
