rear springs on g16

how hard is it to replace the springs on a g16. if someone could give me some instructions I would appreciate it. The driver side of the golf gart is about an inch lower that the passenger side and it is rubbing the tire if someone sits in back..thanks

I understand they are. I've never done them, but I've read on here that you cut the old springs off and then install the new with a screw on retainer. A number of people swear by them.

I tried to compress the springs enough to get the retainer clips off. Unless you have the right spring compressor it’s not worth the trouble. I just cut each spring once with a cut-off wheel and the two pieces will screw into each other to give the slack needed to take the clip off.

thanks guys...what about putting the new ones on..do you have to compress the spring at all because I do not have the compression tool. I guess if you need it to take the one off you probably need it to put them on. Also when you cut the ones off don't you have to worry about being injured from built up energy in the spring or no because it is around a shock which will protect you...thanks again

The old springs aren't under that much compression when they are out of the cart. You have to compress the spring to unclip it. It’s far less dangerous cutting it than trying to get the clip out. The pieces of the spring are held on the shock as you cut it. The new spring doesn’t have to compressed. Jakes makes the springs shorter than the old ones and has a two piece spacer that bolts to the shock that takes the slack out. It is very easy to put the new spring on.
