G2/G9 acceleration questions..

I have a G1/G9 (not sure of the year yet) that seems to jerk a bit when trying to creep, meaning that when the cart is at a dead stop and I want to move just a small distance or move very slowly the cart turns over and takes off but jerks when we try to go slow. Should the clutch engage immediately or not... Thanks in advance..

What you need to do is adjust the throttle cable under the floor panel, pull it up/out with key off because you have to push the gas pedal down. You need to have the pedal switch click to start it before the throttle moves at the carb. Should have maybe 1" play at top of pedal between those. Next you can set the carb to idle really slow, about slow as it can just faster than the starter spins it. May have to fine tune the idle mix usually around 1.5 turn out is close. If your clutch has been lubed it should not creep, though it might a little on pavement or with a new sticky belt it will.

On my g2, I used to be able to lightly idle and not move, then creep slowly if I so needed (also I could push the cart by hand). I replaced the driven clutch and can no longer push the cart, it takes off with the lightest of 'gas pedal' touches. I have the same issue when slowing down (to real slow), I'm pretty sure the jerking you are feeling is the driven clutch 'downshifting' quicker than the drive clutch is adjusting to the new engine rpm.

I think the jerking is the start/stop switch at the gas pedal opening and closing as you try to feather it. follow Sho's lead on this one.

This is usually because the throttle is open when the switch starts the engine, so it takes off. The driver lets off on the pedal and the engine kills (ignition), then the cycle starts over again. It needs to idle with the pedal down just above starter speed, it should not make the cart move unless your clutches are dirty or its pointed downhill. It should idle very slow, barely running. If it does not move on the starter, then it should do the same at that slow idle.

If it drags the belt check the drive belt it should move down around 2" at the top between the clutches before becoming tight with a strong finger push. Is the tension cable pulling the belt too tight? (G9 and 2) Usually the primary on the engine is not parting for the belt at rest because its dirty. Pull the primary out so it lets go of the belt, then try to idle the cart, that is for a stock yamaha G2/9 clutch an original G1 should have a spring in it.

Everyone thinks you tighten up the throttle cable to make it go faster and they tighten it way too far...and don't know what they are doing.

Nice post sho:thumbup: Since your not shure if it's a G1 or G9, post some pix's. Early G1's had a spring, but some of us dealerships removed the spring and installed a machined collar to replace the bearing so the clutch engagement would be smoother. Could be it just need to be taken apart and greased. If it is a G9....alittle differant story. Please let us know what you have. Good luck

I just adjusted mine like sho said to do and now it drives great at low speeds. I GPSed it at 4 mph :)

4 mph?????? don't tell me its not fireing up again, just turning over on the starter/generator!

4mph, lol! There are other ways to adjust the governor for speed. You can also move the pedal up on the splines for more travel, but it can be hard on the ankle.
