I have been reading some treads and have the same problem. Looks like I need to change to a 1" shorter belt. I have not done this due to being too hot to go to the trailer (camp) but will be working on that in the next couple of weeks when the weather breaks( I hope). Doing this I will lose top end speed but it will not hurt too slow down a little.

I think Pachanga is on the money. 99% of your running is probably in forward and that is how the seals wear. In reverse the seal gets a little scuffed up and does a better job. When you lose crankcase pressure less fuel is moved from the case to the cylinder hence the loss of performance. A quick check is to jack up the rear axle and with the engine running squirt some WD40 on the crankshaft behind the clutch right where it comes out of the engine. If the engine speeds up or even just sounds different it is new seal time.
Good luck
Dave

Thanks Dave
I will test this when we can make it to the camp (too hot right now) Next 5 days is going to be 100deg. Or better

The 1" shorter belt doesn't slow top end down enough to really tell a differance , unless your running down a road or flat trail trying to see how fast you go.
