1987 G2 oil plug
 

Hi folks, first timer here.
We just got our old cart and love it. It runs well.
We are completely new to to golf carts and could use some help.
1. What is the size of the oil drain plug and where is it located?
2. What type and viscosity oil is recommended for winter use in Phoenix AZ?
3. Any good uTube or other resource that show how to do an oil change?
4. The cart will be put up for the hot summer. Any lay-up instructions.
5. Steering at higher speeds is "touchy". Problems? Tire pressure?
6. Is there a on line manual online outlining maintenance

There is a "belly pan" on the bottom of the cart. It has a hole in it at the center of the motor. That's where you will find a plug with a 17mm head. For oil selection, use a good 10w30. Exactly 1 qt, NO MORE.

Be sure one quart only. Some of these dipsticks will misread! Overfill it and it will overflow into the air filter box and cause a mess, plus smoke like a freight train. And don't ever ever ever use any kind of thick oil additive. These engines lubricate with a splash system. Can't splash honey. :thumbup:

Thanks for the help with this.
From its appearance the oil must not have been changed in years! Next need to do the rear end. Can it be done without removing the rear cover?
I have spent a few hours reading the PDF shop book. Thanks so much for that it has helped a lot with the learning curve. What are some options for a new spark plug? The local store recommends an AC substitute.

Correct plug is NGK BR4ES. People commonly also use the BPR2ES. Axle has a drain plug and fill plug. Might have to get creative to avoid a mess.

My dealer told me use the NGK BPR2ES, it is the plug for newer yamaha carts. It works great, well it did before I put a clone in my cart. Far as storage I guess what you would usually do for fuel, I'd likely unhook a battery cable.

If the steering is touchy at speed it is likely toe in too much, the tires would be pointing at each other in the front. It is best to measure ahead and behind the tires to find the toe in. Technically this should be done with some weight on the cart to simulate a person. It should have a tiny amount (1/8") to near none of toe in. Toe out will make the steering vague at speed and cart will wander. Toe in too much will make it dart and touchy steering. You turn the tie rods to adjust, make sure to center the wheel at same time and test drive it before you are done.
