Re: does this fe350 sound ok?
Scott10d, just listened to your engine noise. Mine sounds the same way and was diagnosed as coming from the counter weight. I have completely disassembled my engine to remove the counter weight assembly for examination. I see no excessive wear on the sleeve, weight bores, arm bores. All seemed to be tight enough with no excessive play. I also disassembled the oil pump. It looked good. I know what a rod knock sounds like and mine is not a rod knock. Neither is the noise coming from lash adjusters because they are hydraulic and have no adjustment provisions. My engine started the noise when I dis armed the faulty ACR, but I see no correlation between that and the engine noise I'm hearing. I do know my engine noise certainly is not normal....and I do not know where it's coming from. I'm considering reassembling the engine w/o the counter weight and see what happens. Thanks
