is 200amp solenoid enough

Putting in a 500 amp controller, is a heavy duty 200 amp solenoid sufficient or would I be better off with a 400 amp solenoid? Thanks

I would go with something like an Albright SW200. It has better contacts and is built solid to handle high amperage loads.

I agree, use a HD 400a contactor w/500 & 600 amp controllers.
You also need Pre-Charge Resistor & Diode.
Have you upgraded your battery cables?

This link provides good technical selection chart for your considerations.

Curious what your motor specs are?

already have 2ga, running an Admiral high speed 9hp motor produced by Red Hawk.

Hey if this did not have D&D all over it it would make a NICE Sticky

Found these at a good price.

Solenoid

or this one with resistor and diode.

Solenoid2

Ok, So I have another question, I found a good price on a 400 amp controller so I will most likely go with the standard #586 48v 200a solenoid. My question is will my stock diode and resistor on the stock solenoid work or do I need to get a different resistor and diode, and if so, what sizes?

Check this link from AllTrax. This is a very informative document. It explains in detail the controller, solenoid, diodes, and resistor parts of the cart. Very good reading. This will explain alot. It has charts to help in sizing your solenoid to controller amperage as well as the diodes and pre-charge resistors. This applies to all controllers, just look at the amperage. Pre-charge resistor is size by cart voltage and diodes are sized by the amperage you controller is.
