HD Electric has solenoid issues

New owners of a 1980 36v HD that has solenoid issues, I think
It was running fine and then......
Creeps along and won’t reach 3/4 speeds. Read here “solenoid A” could be bad but have no pictures of where it is. There are 6v and 12v solenoids. Micro switch appears good. Good battery voltage 36.8. Just where is this solenoid A?
 And where can I get one? Or should I replace all at once. They are a little rusty. Feeling really embarrassed:cry:

Re: HD Electric has solenoid issues

Any continuous duty solenoids will work at that. Make sure that are continuous duty (not limited duty like car ones). In other words, get ones specifically for carts.

Regarding your lack of speed, indeed, your medium speed solenoid probably isn't closing. Best way to test is to jack the back of you cart up and have someone slowly work the accelerator. As the accelerator is pushed, different solenoids will activate. You just have to identify which solenoids are for which speed by using a volt meter across the small terminals. Once you see what solenoid is activated, see if there is voltage across the large terminals on the same solenoid. Any solenoid that shows voltage on the small terminals but not on the large is stuck open and needs replaced.
