Just a thought about bypassing the governor

I have a 1990 Yamaha G2 that runs great and is all stock. My question is my kids drive this cart and the speed is around 12 MPH and that is good for them.

But i like to kick it up a bit for me (NOT MY WIFE:shock:) i was thinking of running a cable like a choke cable that has a knob on it like a choke cable has and running it back to the governor link and add it to the end of the rod so i can pull out to have more speed or push it in so it's back to normal. I'm just wondering would with this work. Does anyone have an opinion on this or has it been done before. I am new to working on golf carts any input i would be grateful.

You can use a plastic zip strap to tighten the gov when needed. The G2 has a rev limiter built into the ignition, which may come into play...

Why not.... can't remember seeing your idea discussed on here before. Rig something up that works and share with the forum ...

I'd like to see what you come up with. It's really not a bad idea. Especially having kids that drive the cart constantly like I do.

It's a great idea...until the kids figure out "what's this knob do?". :)

Sounds like it'll work though. Please keep us updated.

Wiring wizzards! What about using a solenoid to change the distance on the governor arm.Either use a switch to activate it or another key switch position for more control.Like a valet mode on super cars.

That's a lot of spring tension to overcome with just a simple choke like cable. A motor operator of some sort could drive the gov nut in or out...

You got me thinking now I'm looking into some type of solenoid actuator with a 2nd key.
Will keep you posted when i get something.
