2022 i40 Programming Adventures

Ok I recently purchased an Icon i40. I wanted electric because they are quite and I love programming electric motor drives. So i'll be posting my journey with playing around and documenting all the settings.

Icon(LVTong) 450A Controller
Type: 3.03.003.00035

Running Firmware Version 200

Re: 2022 i40 Programming Adventures

Parameter Definitions and Changes they make:

08.03.01 - Soft stop mode (1 - Regen, 2 - Coast) - Mine was set to Regen from the factory and I like this and makes it nice for the kids driving.

03.03.05 - Meter Pulse Per Round - Used to correct speedometer. I did not need to correct mine. But it seems like all the lifted carts are incorrect. I verified mine with a GPS app on my phone and it was right on.

More to come.

Right of the trailer, my cart would run a max speed of 26mph. I verified this with a GPS app on my phone. I needed to adjustment to the speedometer from the factory setting. It was spot on.

Speed Test 1:
03.02.01
Factory - 45.9kph (28.5mph)
Changed to 56.4kph (35.04mph)

Results:
Max motor RPM of 6039
Max motor current of 175.8A
Max battery current of 189.3A
Max speed 31mph

With just this change alone, I was able to achieve a max speed of 31mph. It took a long time to get and the acceleration was slow. See chart.
I can tell by the trends and the slow acceleration that the controller is limiting the current in the upper RPM range.

Speed Test 2:
Factory:
10.01.08 - Motor Current Limit BS 0 - 400
10.01.09 - Motor Current Limit BS 1 - 350
10.01.10 - Motor Current Limit BS 2 - 230
10.01.11 - Motor Current Limit BS 3 - 200
10.01.12 - Motor Current Limit BS 4 - 180
10.01.13 - Motor Current Limit BS 5 - 150

Changed To:
10.01.08 - Motor Current Limit BS 0 - 400
10.01.09 - Motor Current Limit BS 1 - 400
10.01.10 - Motor Current Limit BS 2 - 400
10.01.11 - Motor Current Limit BS 3 - 400
10.01.12 - Motor Current Limit BS 4 - 400
10.01.13 - Motor Current Limit BS 5 - 400

Results:
Max motor RPM of 7056
Max motor current of 245.6A
Max battery current of 303.2A
Max speed 36.54mph

Acceleration was very improved and gained a lot of speed. I still feel like I can get a little more out of it and improve the acceleration even more.

Low/High Speed Mode:

This is enabled by wiring up 12V to pin 2 on the controller. Apply 0V, factory, enables High speed mode. Applying 12V, enables Low speed mode.

You will need to be logged in as Super to see these parameters.
You will need to set:
03.03.02 (Low High Spd Switch Mode) = 1
Then use the following to control the low speeds:
03.02.05 - Vehicle Fwd Speed (LSM) = 32.1(20mph)
03.02.06 - Vehicle Rev Speed (LSM) = 8.5 (5.2mph)

Tested and it works great. Just need to finish mounting the switch permanently.

is pin 2 brought out anywhere or do you have to open the controller box and add it to the connector?

Unfortunately it is not. There are a ton of other plugs that are not used, but they did not wire that one up. You have to remove the controller, unplug the wiring harness. Crimp a contact to a wire, and insert into the wiring harness plug at the controller.

That is a bummer. I really want to add a ludicrous mode switch.

Thanks for digging into this.
