Default Re: Changing Rearend Oil ?

For the 2 cycles, you should use 80W90 gear oil.... Dose are some big-ol gears back dare... Use 80W90 especially if you have the 6.88:1 gears

For the 4 cycles.... as long as whatever oil you use is 30wt. You can use 80W, but it boggs down the rear end so much that the car acts like the engine is low on power ....

Synthetics are fine... just more expensive and "most" work extremely well. I say most because Jastrol isn't as good as Castrol (I made that up , but stay name brand). If you use engine oil for the 4 cycle rear end... make sure it is Ashless Detergent... If the car is brand new... a little secret I learned from aviation... change the rear end oil to MINERAL oil for the first 5 hours of operation. It helps "break" in the gears by removing more impurities, and "filling" in the pours of the metals.
