You don't have to dissconnect the tie rods, there is a left hand jamb nut on one end and a right hand jamb nut on the other.With both ends loose you can turn the tie rod by hand or with a small adjustable wrench. Also, make sure your "rack" is centered before you start. It may take several times to get it right.
I did not lose any turning radius when I added my lift. Just had to make the proper adjustments.
