Default Re: New Battery install. Now what?

You definitely should charge them FULLY before your first use.

A few tips for a long battery life ... keep your batteries fully charged at every possible opportunity, do not discharge to below 50% state of charge (using stabilized battery pack voltage to determine state of charge), avoid storing batteries in a discharged state (can cause permanent sulfation), follow a proper break in procedure (see below ... avoid high amperage draws during break in ... i.e. pedal to the metal ... break them in gently) and maintain your batteries properly with regular watering (distilled only), terminal maintenance (cleaning if required) and proper terminal torques (do not under torque and especially do NOT over-torque ... as terminal can pull of out the lead).

There is lots written about batteries and break in procedures here on the forum ... using the SEARCH function should direct you to a lot of reading.

Here are a few places to start you reading:

Batteries can last you one year with heavy use and poor maintenance ... or or several years with good break in, proper use and good maintenance ... some BGW member report up to 7 years.

Welcome to BGW and happy carting
