Default Yamaha G1 weak spark in reverse, bad CDI or stator?

I have a G1 which up until a day or so ago ran great. Now it runs fine forwards, but won't start in reverse. It turns over in reverse, but won't start. I pulled the plug and observed excellent spark in forwards, but miniscule spark in reverse (I used multiple new spark plugs to confirm).

I switched the small leads (yellow and blue) on the solenoids, and observed no attempt to start when attempting to start in the forwards (but running thru the reverse circuit). When attempting to start in reverse (but running thru the forwards circuit) the engine would roll over but stop due to what I assume is pre-ignition.

The cart has the original CDI and the White/Rogers solenoids. Is it possible the CDI would fail or be weak in just the reverse condition? Would it make sense that it's the CDI due to the normal spark in forwards but such a weak spark in reverse? Any testing protcol other than the normal checking of connections and wire condition?

Thanks,
-Jed
