In my experience you can go a 1/16th wider than the stock belt with no problems, in fact I prefer it. I'm assuming we are talking about your 16hp clone as the power plant here, so let me ask you some questions:
Did the original distance between the clutches change from stock?
If Yes, how are you measuring for the new belt length?
If No, what was the stock belt measurement or part number when new?
Are you using the stock primary clutch, or did you get an aftermarket clutch?
If aftermarket, which one?
There is much more info on the stock type Dayco belts out there that this cross reference doesn't attempt to list, these are just "high performance" belts from snow mobiles and ATV's, so you may very well find an "OEM" type belt that meets your needs.
