Default Re: 1983 EZGO textron Robin Engine 244CC 2 stroking Pulsar timing issue

I have found a manual for the 85 EZGO posted in another thread. I ran the PDf through the OCR and it is now searchable by keyword. I hope this helps someone else. I have not had a chance to check the timing. I am not that great at understanding what the wording the service manual means. I am going to see if my father will be able to help me. He is an old shade tree mechanic.

Here is the searchable PDF drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B5W_eb2gL9LYbzlBUkVFNk90UVk&usp=sha ring

It would not let me upload it to this site via attachment or add a hyperlink.

Just in case, can anyone simplify this from page l-15?

I. Ignition Timing (Standard)

(See Fig. L-14)
Forward: 180
(B.T.D.C.)
+ 30 /1,500 R.P.M.
Reverse: 21 0
(B.T.D.C.)
+ 0 3 / 1,500 R.P .M.
Reassembly procedures for the pulser
assembly:
Fasten the pulser mounting plate with
the center of the screws in alignment
with the timing mark line at the plate.
11. Ignition Timing Check
(Forward rotation only)
Due to the function of the 5.5.1.
system, the timing checks may be made
only when engine is running.
NOTE: If the ignition timing in the
forward rotation is correct, the timing
in reverse rotation will also be correct.
Therefore, timing checks are only
required in the forward rotation.
L-15
I. Remove the dust plate from the
cooling fan shroud.
2. Set the engine R.P .M. at 1,500
R.P.M. ~ 200 in forward rotation.
3. Illuminate the slit line on the
cooling fan shroud using a timing
light and check if the slit line and
the embossed mark on the cooling
fan (Fig. L-14) are in alignment •
4. The timing is correct when the
marks are in alignment. (Fig. L-IS)

III. Ignition Timing Adjustment

(Forward Rotation)
If the ignition timing is incorrect,
adjust it in accordance with the
following procedures.
I. Remove the cooling fan shroud and
cooling fan, and loosen the plate
mounting screws.
2. Adjust the timing by rotating the
plate - left or right. (Fasten screws
to 52 lb. in.) (See Fig. L-16)
3. Check the timing in accordance
with the ignition timing check I and
