Other than it might getting hung up, I see no reason. Backpressure concerns come from to small a pipe or to long a pipe. In this case, if your using the same size pipe to extend as is on the muffler now, you should be OK. If that pipe slides into the muffler outlet, I would replace it with one that slides over the outlet.
