His comments were in reference to the MZJ type solenoid he had in his post which does not have any built in polarity.

The Solenoid You have on your picture does not have magnetic blowouts, the + on the side is because there is a diode soldered from factory between the terminals.

That OEM Solenoid is the reason some early Club Car wiring diagrams did not show a diode on the solenoid which some folks erroneously interpreted as not being needed.

You should always have a diode when the Solenoid coil is being activated by an electronic device.

The Solenoids with the Magnetic Blowout like the SW180 in CartsUnlimited drawing will have the + on the Top near when of the big posts to indicate where the highest voltage potential cable is connected.

If not cabled correctly instead of "blowing" the arc out of the contact area when they open, the Solenoid will actually drive the arc inside which can cause premature damage of the contacts surface.
