Haven’t made any progress on the transmission/clutch. But I did fix my cooling issues. When I removed the shroud to replace it I noticed the fins were caked with dirt and grass. Check it out:
I’m really glad the motor didn’t overheat and give up the ghost before I noticed it. I did a fair amount of driving like this.

Next thing to tackle is the noisy transmission going to pull it all apart to inspect.
