IIRC only the G1 was set to idle, the rest say turn it off so it closes all the way. I've always run my G9 to idle, though a really slow idle, and my clone runs the same way. I can idle it if I want to keep my foot on the pedal, it is slow enough I can also shift at that idle no problem even when I had stock clutches, if you didn't do it too slowly.

Right exhaust leak could certainly do it. Idle too lean or rich can.

You can also run a bypass switch on the pedal so it stays on with the key, then if you go down a hill it does not kill the ignition....if you get backfires from that, though yes then you have to use the switch, remember to, etc.
