well the motor is rated for 36v(but alot of them can handle more).. the batteries are 6 6 volt batteries...yes u can test the motor with 12v, just make sure u hook it up correctly first.. and if u have to buy new batteries, than yea alot of people will tell u to just do the 48v conversion now..

on a side note.. this is a personal request.. being that i myself am a huge mustang enthusiest, and have owned a yellow mustang, could u please send me somepics of your car.. from the avatar it looks beautiful...
