Nice progress! As for a solid state conversion, I did one last summer. I didn't want to drop the money on a CU kit either (as nice as they are). The process really wasn't all that bad. The parts you basically need a controller, F/R contactor, solenoid, and throttle box. I was able to reuse all of the original 6 gauge wiring in the conversion, as it was in good condition.
