The other possibility is the iginition coil. Mine quit sparking one day too. Changed out the rev limiter and ignitor because I was told that was 100% the problem. It wasn't.

On mine the coil was rusty and delaminated enough to where it would not function.

Changing the coil without taking the engine out is loads of fun. You can't get the shroud off without pulling the engine, but I just removed all the bolts I could, and pried the cover out enough to change the coil. Not fun but lots less work than pulling the engine.
