Basically, yes. You will want to upgrade the cables as a lot more amps will be traveling through them. And I reccomend you inspect your F&R switch and the speed wiper board first. Any signs of arching must be addressed as the higher voltage will only make this condition dangerously worse.
You said old Melex? Is it a resistor coil cart or controller?
