Attached is what I think is the rear diff in that EZGO. It looks like the input shaft is supported by two bearings, which is good. Now I just wonder how the sprocket is attached. If you grab the sprocket and pull/push does it have play? Does it want to flop around? If yes, then you will need to do some work on that and/or the diff itself. If not then you've got yourself a cool project!
