Thanks, everyone for the replies. Really appreciated. I looked up a pic from my controller install and I had a good shot of the battery tray. There is room with the old 6v battery set. I'll change the batteries.

To the question about salt. My cart is exposed to salt when stored in my garage as I do park another vehicle in there with it. Not enough to wreck a battery tray. I suspect prior to my ownership the cart was left out in the snow a lot. It wasn't "rusted" horribly but, the battery tray isn't in the best shape. But not so awful that it needs to be changed.

Sounds like you'd better double check the dates of each battery from that dealer. I assumed you'd know to count the lids (2 volts/lid), but kgsc's story... "Here ya go sir, four 12 volt batteries." And I'll bet they were "brand new".

Actually don't know how to count the lids and what I should be looking for on the batteries. Researching now. Thanks for the tip!

Ok, educated myself. :) 4 caps (8v) vs 3 caps (6v). Gotcha.

4 fill holes for an 8v battery, 3 for a 6v.

Consider por15 for your battery tray if it still has structural integrity. You can take a flap disk to whatever rust you can get to. The por15 will neutralize what you can’t get off and not allow it to spread.

All lead-acid batteries consist of a number of 2V cells connected in series and packed in a box. The storage capacity of the 2V cells is pretty much determined by the square footage of the lead plates and the concentration of the acid. Roughly the same strength acid is used in all deep-cycle wet-cells and 6V (3 cell) and 8V (4 cell) are packed in roughly the same sized box, so the cells used for 8V batteries are about 3/4 the size of those used in 6V batteries.

When battery packs of different voltages are compared, watt-hours are used, so the battery pack voltage is multiplied by the AH of storage. The standard 36V battery pack has six 6V-225AH for 8100 watt-hours and 48V pack using six 8V-170AH has 8160 watt-hours, so for a run-time about the same as the standard 36V pack, go with six 170AH-8V batteries.

Attached is a chart of various 8V batteries.
You may have different brands of golf cart batteries up north, so just pick a battery with a similar AH rating (at the 20hr rate) to see where it stacks up.

This guy nailed it once again! A golden nugget for this forum! (Or maybe a gold bar). After all he has done, and answered so many questions with his "golden drive of resources", maybe we need to buy him a good golden Raid array, so it can't ever fail!

Made it about six years ago and it is a bit out of date, US battery now has a 205AH 8V that would be at the top of the list.

There's a lot more interest in 6x8V packs these days, so I need to update it.

Thanks for the tip. When I pulled the batteries the tray was beyond repair and had very little structural integrity. In fact, the holes where the tie-down rods went into just crumbled away. (Where the S part goes into it.)

Had to get a new tray. :( Hold downs wouldn't have worked and I was scraping off huge chunks of metal. The original battery set I have is "newer" and about 3 years old. The cart has been mine for a year now. Prior to my ownership it clearly spent a few winters outside. I suspect that the previous batteries to the ones I got the cart with assisted in rotting out the battery tray as well. :(

Thank-you. I got batteries that I got are:

20 AH Capacity: 170
5 AH Capacity: 130
Mins. Discharged
@75 AMPS: 85
@56 AMPS: 121
@25 AMPS: 318
Weight: 68 (lbs. wet)

Hopefully, I got good ones.

Another question... I am assuming I am going to have to get a new tie-down plate as the one from my 36v set isn't fitting or can I just take my Dremel and make it fit by trimming it. The offset doesn't match up with the batteries and when I checked on Google for TXT 48v tie-down plates they look different than the one I have.

One I have that was on my 36v set is this one:

EZGO-Battery-Hold-Down-Kit-1994-up-TXT-Medalist-Golf.jpg

But, I am assuming I now need this one:

Thank-you everyone for helping out! One day I will be an expert on my cart and hopefully helping other EZGO TXT DCS upgraders. :)

Cheers,
Impaled
