Default Electric to Gas Conversion High RPM and really slow speed

Just picked up a 1997 EZGO TXT where the cart was previously converted from 36V to a Duramax 18HP. I'm new to the modified golf cart world so i'm hoping you can point me in the right direction.

I currently have an issue where the motor will increase in RPM's but the cart will only move at a very slow speed like the Torque converter is possibly slipping or not engaging. So my question is what should I look for to determine it is in fact the torque converter verse say the differential, Can it be cleaned or repaired if it is not engaging and is there anything else I should be looking at. I have attached two pictures of the setup.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I can't tell for certain from the angle, but it looks like the belt isn't riding up very high on the primary clutch. Either put it in neutral and rev the engine to see how high it rides or take a marker and color in a portion of one of the clutch sheaves and ride it around. Any marker that is left behind tells you were the belt stops.

The belt is possibly too tight not letting it up in the primary. HBR's test should tell the tale.

Really appreciate the response, so I used a marker and ran the engine and attached the before and after pictures.

I'm not sure what rear end was used but provided pics. The previous owner stated the cart use to run about 16-20 mph with a lot of torque but they also purchased it after it was converted.

For whatever reason you are not getting the primary clutch to full speed position.

That looks like a ezgo TXT electric rear end. And it is in the cart backwards. It is running in reverse when it is going forward. And what size sprocket is on the rear end, how many teeth?.

Not sure what someone was thinking, but if that's running in reverse that would account for low speed.

With that said, I agree with Ray, that primary isn't engaging all the way. The secondary may not be matched with the primary and it could be holding the primary back, or, the primary is not working properly.

Some of those don't like to shift all the way at 3600 rpm, you need to tweek the governor to 4K and then they work better. This may or may not be your issue. The belt can be wrong size or width or too tight. It should have some slack at rest. Clutch looks pretty new and clean, I would look at other things before the clutch. Clutch can be broken inside or was never set up correctly.
