Angry testing ignition coil

hey there ,i just put new rings, reed valves and crank seals .in my g-1 ,put it all back together and no spark. i checked all fuses and my ignition coil is kinda rigged. so i ordered a new one .but i would still like to know how you are supposed to check one i assume with multi meter. i hope this is the problem but i needed one anyway .thanks for any input.

A simple test .... remove the plug end from the coil wire and hold it with insulated pliers 1/4 inch from the engine while cranking. If no spark check engine ground with a test light...... I will post some test procedures here in a minute

Be carefull. Yamaha's "CDI" box's can be damaged if one spark jumps with taht test. Would recommend a "Dynamic spark tester" on all Yamaha's from 1979 G1's to 1994 G14's (G16 and later went tyo a magneto ignition system. Good luck Dave
