Default Request for help testing 96 EZGO TXT.

Kids on cart were driving and it stopped while trying to go up a small incline no longer than 4 feet in length. Cart stopped and I was told there was some type of crackling sound. I wasn't there when it happened.

96 EZGO TXT 36 volt series. I changed solenoid falsely thinking it was the problem.
Battery pack is 38.9 volts.
Micro switch tested OK.
Voltage at B- and battery side of solenoid = pack
Voltage at B- and controller side of solenoid is .5 less than pack
Voltage at B- & Controller B+ is .5 less than pack

Voltage between B- & B+ is about half of pack voltage. The troubleshooting diagram #5 says it should be .5-2.5 less than pack. It was a lot more than that. It says to "check wiring problem between B- controller/ B-"

Not sure what to do now

Is your solenoid clicking still or not...that will tell you if its before the controller or not? also did you look at the forward/reverse contacts and wires and see if they are melted...tht may have been the crackling sound?

I’ll be honest in my opinion based on the fact it was trying to go uphill and the noise heard it sounds like your controller may have popped...this usually happens when a cart is being loaded up a trailer incline or being taken uphill or overloaded...but if it were me the next step I would do would be to test the motor...with wires removed you should have continuity between the two A terminals and between the two S or F terminals(depending on motor)...but not between any of the A and S/F terminals...there is a more detailed version of this test as well as a few others you may wanna try if you click back to home page...then go to electric EZ Go diagnostics in the stickies are the top of the page

the next step I would do would be to test the motor.
I tested motor with two batteries (12v) and it worked. I guess I need to check continuity next.

The incline would be like loading into a trailer. I was thinking it's the controller but wanted to check everything else (and everything cheaper!) before buying another one.

Yeah I’ve run outta things to look into, at this point I have the luxury(I’m a dealer) of replacing to confirm without worrying about expense. But for the average do it yourself’Er that can get expensive...If you do end up having to replace bows the time to get some upgrades...Visit site sponsors like Scottyb’s page Cartsunlimited.net for the best packages and he is usually around for some advice/tech questions...keep us posted and if anyone wants to jump in with some more advice or anything I haven’t thought of comes to mind please do :)

Turns out there was damage to the controller. It was repaired and is back on the road.

Next project is fixing loose steering and adding lights and a radio.
