Default EZGO dead what is field voltage and resistance

My 1999 Ezgo txt sepex drive cart (has run/toe sw and small 10ga wires for the field) quit, dead in it's tracks, though I herd a cracking sound. When making voltage checks, the field was only .4 v and field wires measured 2 ohms
So did the field short out and cause the controller to burn out or is 2 ohms normal?

The 1999 sepex drive was called a DCS.

The Ohms scale on a typical DMM will measure 1Ω to 2Ω between the motor's F1 and F2 terminals with no cables connected.

Does the voltage between the controller's F1 and F2 terminals change when the pedal is pushed? If not, the controller is bad.

The stock DCS controller (Curtis 12067SX) was EZGO's first attempt at a sepex system and it had some design issues and replacing it with another stock DCS controller is about the same as burning the money.

Replace it with an Alltrax XCT48400-DCS.

With pedal pushed Field voltage only changed a few tenth of a volt, but the motor voltage A1 A2 steadly dropped from 36 down to 20v.

Armature voltage dropping from 36V down to 20V probably a result of it drawing a lot of amps due to the filed not being excited.

I don't have any good field voltage data for a stock DCS motor, but an aftermarket one with about 40% more torque than stock needs about 40V for 20A of field excitation (High torque operation) when powered from a 48V pack, about 5V for 3A (High Speed operation) and about 16V for 10A (Mid-range operation).

Bad controller.

Makes sense, .4v is just too low, guess the controllers field output is shot, I guess it's time to look for a Alltrax DCX controller or better yet a newer cart
