Motor Reconmendations
Without making this a long story I have a Ezgo Series cart that came stock with a fleet high speed motor ezgo 73124g03 is the part number. The motor went south and I sent it to Plumb Quick to rebuild and it came back heating bad. After many conversations with them and $$ later on rewiring the cart it kept heat until it burned up. Ive been waiting on them for two months and can't get a straight answer from them. So with that said I need a motor asap and need to know which route to go. Go back with the stock fleet motor or something else. The cart is not lifted, just reat seat and 12 in low pro wheels. It already has a 400 amp controller on it. Please someone tell me which route to go.
Thanks |

By, "rewiring the cart" I assume you mean you have installed 4 guage or larger wires. Have you added a heavy duty controller to that combo? Are you certain of the continuity of all the connecting wires? If you're burning motors up, it's a good guess you have some serious resistance somewhere along the way.

Re: Motor Reconmendations
This cart came stock with a Curtis 400 amp controller . The original motor wasn't burt up but damaged from my daughter running the cart in the pond. They told me they could've fix it but did anyway and I had nothing but trouble out of the plumb quick motor. I have upgraded ALL wiring to 4 gauge and replaced the forward reverse switch with heavy dudy one. What else could cause this resistance and how will I check it?

Re: Motor Reconmendations
If the cart was submerged, the best thing to do is replace anything that is/was a circuit board. That might even include the F&R switch, depending on model. Any of the secondary wires could be shorting or have bad connections. Check the continuity of every wire. There is the other kind of resistance too. Mechanical. Could the rear end have been damaged when the cart when in the water? Have you drained and refilled the punkin? Repack the bearings?

Like chloe had said, anything that got submerged could be suspect. Have you put the whole cart on jacks and spun all the wheels? I would think a controller would just fail, same for solenoids. The FNR could be suspect and if you download the manual for your cart from the stickies you can test the resistance of it across various points. But for some reason I'm thinking you might be powering both your forward and reverse circuits to your motor. Since the reverse circuit is half the volts than the forward, maybe something of that nature is smoking your motors? I would want you to look at the wiring diagram for your cart and make sure everything is wired up correctly. Did the cart work after your put a new motor in it? For how long? Did you have normal performance from it if it did? |

Re: Motor Reconmendations
well the motor ran for about 8 months before it started acting up. I can roll the cart with one hand. I did drain the rear end and replaced all oil (no water got in rear end). The armature was damaged on the motor the first time because I was imoatient and didnt let it dry out all the way. Plumb quick told me they couldnt fix it and then they called and told me the fixed it and sent it back. I think something was wrong with it from the start. I took the cart to a ezgo dealer and he said that all the reading were correct accept for the feilds in the motor. The resistance was way to high. I need some type of motor so I can start to trouble shoot again. Should I go with the stock motor or something else?

Re: Motor Reconmendations
Personally I would try to eliminate everything else before installing a new motor. Just putting a new motor in to have it fry would be an expensive way to find out your problem lies elsewhere!
That being said you might as well upgrade the motor if you are going to be buying a complete new one anyway. |
