This was your OP. We have no idea if you have a nuclear generator powering your cart or a solar windmill. Please give us some specifics. model and SN would be awesome. What voltage are you at right now. And again. Plug it in and tell us what you have after.

For all we know. The cart has never been plugged in to charge since you bought it.

The lights use far less power than the motor. You might have enough power for the lights but not the motor. And, your lights might be running off of a separate 12v auxilliary battery not connected to the motor pack.

As has been suggested several times put a FULL charge on the batteries. Make sure the charger is working and if it is an automatic charger let it charge until it turns off. If you have the QE charger there is a little green light that will blink while charging and go steady green when fully charged. After the charge and letting them rest a bit if you have a volt meter take a voltage reading. Then come back here and tell us. A 36 volt battery pack is about 50% charged at 36 volts and at about 20% at 35 volts.

Maybe its something as simple as a cable not tight on one of your batteries? That happened to me once and it shut down immediately.

Good point Rick, It needs a solid charge and time to settle.

How do I know if the motor is bad or not? Is there a reset switch?

No, there is no reset switch, and determining whether the motor is good or bad is about step 17 in the troubleshooting process and so far you have not provided the answer to step 1, which has been asked multiple times.

If you don't have a DVM (Digital Volt Meter), you need one.
An inexpensive one sold in a blister pack at an auto or big-box store will suffice.

What is the battery pack voltage?
It should be 38.22V for a 36V battery pack and each 6V should be at 6.37V and the difference between the highest and lowest battery should be 0.1V or less.
(The fact that the lights come on does not indicate much more than the lights work, but whether the lights work or not isn't why the cart doesn't move.)

The second question is:
Does the solenoid click when the throttle pedal is pressed?

Answer those two questions and we will proceed from there.

Okay, battery pack is high enough to troubleshoot with.

Does the solenoid click in forward or just doesn't click in reverse?

-------------

Jack rear wheels off ground and put on jack-stands so half ton cart doesn't take off unexpectedly and run over someone or something.

---------
Attach DVM negative test lead to battery pack's main negative post.

With Charger plug disconnected,
Run/Tow switch in RUN,
Keyswitch ON,
F/R switch in R,
Pedal pressed.

Measure the voltage at the following Pins on the controller while all connectors are connected.
J1 Pins 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 & 9
J3 Pins 1, 2, 3 & 4
J4 Pins 1 & 2

All should read full battery pack voltage. (About 38.1V if my addition of the individual battery voltage is correct)

If any of the voltages is missing, check out the switch it is connected to.

----------------
Brief overview of Cart troubleshooting. (The actual troubleshooting tree has 64 steps in it)
- make sure the battery pack has enough voltage
- get the solenoid to activate (Click)
- verify high current loop is complete
- verify controller output responses to throttle
- if controller does not respond to throttle, check throttle
- If controller responds to throttle, check motor.

-----------
