Default accelerator pedal sticking

I have a 1979 Ezgo cart, the accelerator pedal is sticking. This has been going on for a while, but I just pop it up with my foot. I can feel it catch in several places as I press down. Yesterday the pedal stuck and would not release, then I smelt something hot, I lifted the seat and the resistor coil was red hot. I turned the key off and I think that's what caused the resistor coil to cool down, the reason I'm not sure is the accelerator came unstuck also. I am not very knowledgeable about carts or electric, I can't afford a mechanic and this my only transportation. Any help is appreciated.

Spray some WD40 on the pivot points of the linkage from the accelerator pedal to the wiper and contact looking thing under the seat. Specifically spray the pivot point where the linkage attaches to the wiper and the pivot of the wiper itself. I had the same thing happen on my 3 wheeler and it dang near ran me into the side wall of the shop - lubricating the accelerator linkage pivots freed the pedal right up.

As for the resistor getting hot, the pedal probably wasn't all the way released causing voltage to go through the coils, which with the cart not moving will tend to heat them up pretty quick.

may i add that the coils always get hot its the air going over them that cools them a little
as a new cart owner some things you need to know
always keep batteries watered with distilled water only !!!
add water after charging

park it plug it in , batteries like full charge and last longer
keep cables clean and tight , not over tight, check weekly
keep ties pumped up 18 to 22 psi
grease front ball joints every 3 months , repack hubs every 6 months

Yep, welcome to our little niche corner of the internet. Read all you can, it will help you to understand exactaly how your cart should be working. That will help you to whip your cart "in to shape" to run its best. Then we will help make it into the trouble-free machine to do any task you need it to do.
