Re: More torque 2017 Onward
Larger cables never hurt. You’re not going to gain anything from them by themselves though unless you upgrade motor/controller in which case I’d go with 1/0 or 2awg cables. I’ve got a bunch of 4/0 if you’re really feeling optimistic
Larger cables pass larger amounts of current through them with less resistance. The stock controller doesn’t pull much for current so upgrading cables would be like having your faucet set to a small stream through the garden hose. Little stream passes through easily because there’s no resistance, the size of the hose is adequate for the amount of water flow. Upgrading to a fire hose isn’t going to allow any more of that small “stream” through. It’s just got more room than it needs to flow. If you upgrade the controller and motor, that little stream can become much more substantial of a flow. So if you overrun the garden hose, it will resist that flow and create pressure because it backs up. The garden hose is no longer adequately sized for the amount of flow. In this case upgrading to the fire hose to support the increased water flow, will remove that resistance and allow it to flow more freely. Converting from water now to electricity, that resistance turns into heat (the cables get hot) so some of that voltage is being wasted as heat, instead of motive force (turning the motor). This wasted voltage to heat will actually drop the voltage available for the motor to use because it’s being held up in the cable with nowhere to go. In an electric motor, extra torque requires extra current draw/amperage. Higher voltage relates to extra speed (but in this case the controller limits the speed anyway, but I won’t dice too deep off the trail). You’ll need drive system upgrades to gain more torque. I’d contact David hicks at revolution golf cars. He’s the resident know it all for club cars and could set you up right |

So if I read you correctly CP, a fire hose will not water my plants quicker than my standard 1/2" garden hose? 🤔
I am so disappointed. |

Had Plum Quick do their Bandit upgrade and now can hit 29mph, but no increase in torque. That was also with my 4 year old PD+ batteries. Just installed Trojan T875 and wonder if I can break 30mph. Not that I'm going anywhere, but I'm getting there fast...LOL. |
